Dr. Denny DePetrillo

Denny DePetrillo , MD, FRCSC was born in Toronto. He graduated from medicine at the University of Ottawa and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Toronto and Hamilton. His gynecologic oncology training occurred at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.

Academic Leadership: During his career in academic medicine, he provided leadership to the following organizations:

 President, Western Association of Gynecologic Oncologists

An experienced builder of cancer programs: Dr. DePetrillo has reviewed and assessed oncology needs and cancer programs around the world. He has developed cancer programs both in Canada and internationally. These projects have been based in development of local capacity, mentoring and enhancing the skills of those present, as well as strategic recruitment. He has used his extensive knowledge of international medicine, cultural diversity and stakeholder relationships to build strong
teams and create sound partnerships.

Developing Professional Societies & Organizations: Dr. De Petrillo has served on the board and/or executive of seven medical professional societies and was a founder of the Gynecologic Oncology of Canada, the International Gynecologic Oncology Society (IGCS) and Cancer Care Caribbean. His success in this work has been based on his strength of vision, collaborative style, his ability to build trusting relationships, and his attention to investing in the future membership.

Innovative Solution: Dr. De Petrillo is a creative problem solver. He is Co-Founder and Vice Chair of CarePath Inc. – a cancer assistance and navigation program which provides information and support for employees of corporations.

A Teacher and Mentor: Dr. De Petrillo has trained over 50 Gynecologic Oncologists who now occupy positions of leadership around the world. He is still widely sought out as a teacher and mentor. Awards: He has received many awards over the years including the inaugural Presidential Award from the Gynecologic Oncologists of Canada and the inaugural Lifetime Achievement

Award from the Ontario Medical Association. In 2012 he was awarded the Presidential medal for Lifetime Achievement by the IGCS as a “Builder”. Dr. De Petrillo is currently Professor Emeritus in the Departments of Gynecology and Surgery at the University of Toronto.
