Dr Prafull Ghatage, MD FRCSC is an Associate Professor in Obs/Gyn and Oncology at the University of Calgary. He did his undergraduate medical training at The National University of Ireland. He then moved to Canada and completed his residency at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), Canada. After he completed residency he did fellowship training at the University of Manitoba before returning to MUN.
He served as Residency Program Director in Obs/Gyn at MUN from 1991 to 1998 and acting Chair 1996-1998 before he was recruited by University of Calgary/Tom Baker Cancer Centre in 1998 where he has been the Gyn Oncology Residency Program Director until now.
His other appointments include Chair, MCQ Examination Committee, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada – 2007 -2013
At present he is Co-Chair, Kuwait National Board Examination in Obstetrics and Gynecology; Vice Chair, Examination Committee, Gynecologic Oncology, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; Chair, Subspecialty Training, Association of Professors in Obstetrics and Gynecology; a member of the Guidelines committee for Gyn Oncology, Alberta and a reviewer, Pan-Canadian Oncology Drug Review Panel (Health Canada)
He is also a member of the Expert Panel for a document on” Pan Canadian Standard in Gyn Oncology “. This document is for review by the Ministers of Health of the various provinces.
His major focus for research include: HIPEC in Ovarian Cancer; clinical trials in Gyn Oncology; Synoptic Operative Reports in Gyn Oncology (a project endorsed by the Gyn Oncology Society of Canada and by Canadian Partnership Against Cancer.)
